Saving Seeds for Next Season

Garrett College in coordination with the University of Maryland Extension is sponsoring a one-session course, Saving Seeds for Next Season, at the college’s Southern Outreach Center located in Oakland. The class will be held on Thursday, October 6, 6–8 p.m. Want to be a more self-sufficient gardener? If so, this class is designed for participants to learn the ins and outs of seed saving. Learn why one cannot save seeds from hybrid varieties and what to look for when purchasing seeds to grow and save in future season. Best storage methods and instructions for making one’s own seed packets will be shared. The course is being instructed by Ashley Bodkins who received her Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy from West Virginia University and an associate degree in horticulture from Potomac State College. She works for the University of Maryland Extension where she answers home horticulture questions and coordinates the Maryland Master Gardener Program for Garrett County. The University of Maryland Extension programs are open to any person and will not discriminate against anyone because of race, age, sex, color, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry, national origin, marital status, genetic information, political affiliation, and gender identity or expression. Anyone with a disability that requires special assistance for participation in the program should contact the extension office at 301-334-6960.
