Flagger Training Certification

Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development has scheduled a flagger training certification course slated for September 30 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Garrett College Northern Outreach Center in Grantsville. The course may be lengthened or shortened due to the number of attendees. This certification course is required for individuals flagging along Maryland roadways. The primary objectives of the course are to train flaggers to provide safe passage through and around work areas and to minimize confusion by bringing standard procedures to our nation's highways. The course is approved by the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) and will be instructed by a certified flagger professional. Topics include the following: flagging standards, flagger qualifications, proper flagging procedures, use of equipment such as two-way radios, signs, flags, and what to do in special situations. Certification cards will be issued to those who demonstrate a competency and knowledge of proper flagging techniques and practices.
